Elmina Town of Art Gains International Attention as Traditional Council Backs Initiative
Elmina — The Elmina Town of Art initiative continues to gather momentum as artists work across parts of the historic town ahead of the 2026 Edina Bakatue Festival.
Nana Amissah Mensah-Dadziebo visited the project site on behalf of the Edina Traditional Council to assess the progress of work and encourage the participating artists. During the visit, he donated high-visibility safety vests and refreshments to support the team as they continue work on murals and public art installations.
He also conveyed greetings from Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, Omanhen of the Edina Traditional Area, and commended the artists for contributing to the beautification of Elmina beyond the festival season.

According to Nana Amissah Mensah-Dadziebo, the Traditional Council intends to support efforts to develop the initiative into an annual art festival that could eventually attract international participation and create opportunities for young artists to showcase their talent.
The project was first introduced last year by a group of artists from Elmina as part of efforts to improve the visual landscape of the town while contributing to the cultural atmosphere surrounding Bakatue celebrations.
Following the attention the initiative received online, this year’s edition has expanded internationally with Dutch/Ghanaian artist Richard Kofi undertaking a one-week residency in Elmina with support from the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of the artists, team lead Emmanuel Eshun thanked the Edina Traditional Council for its continued support and expressed appreciation for the visit to the project site. He said the artists remain committed to giving their best to make Elmina more beautiful through their work.
Nana Amissah Mensah-Dadziebo further assured the artists of the Council’s continued support and called on individuals, institutions, and corporate organisations to contribute to the growth of the project.
